Right now HTC has opened there official Un-lock bootloader for the Evo 3d. But please do not use it! Users have reported that it's not working correctly. It will go through all the moves and post on the top of the screen Unlocked. But S-on stays and your unable to flash a rom, nor flash a recovery. Also please note that if you take the OTA it will make your s-off turn to s-on. And there is no unlocking it right now.

Evo 3d Updates with New OTA 8/18/2011

Well it's here the OTA that is needed so you can unlock the phone via HTC's web site. But this also brings you many other things.

But first if you are one of the few that is S-off already do not take this OTA. There is a rom already made for it. As well as zip image files for you to flash the new Radio and setups. There are many fixes including the upgrade to Android Version 2.3.4.

I have flashed the ROM, and Radios. They work great. As a bonus it now also brings Native Screen shots. You just hold the power and home key and it will take a screen shot.. Nice. I give thanks to xHausx for the very fast work he did in getting these out.

Here is what I did and it what order:

1) First Backup all your important data and info. I use My Backup Pro (Root) from the Market. It works great and it's free.
2) Downloaded the Shooter_2.08.651.2_odexed_rooted-signed.zip. and checked the MD5.
Note there is also a dedoxed version. Both will do the job.
3) Downloaded All 2.08.651.2 Firmware Minus hBoot.
4) I booted into recover (TWRP) and did a nandroid (Backup).
5) I rebooted into my present rom. Once back up and running using ES Explorer I renamed the Image file.
6) I rename the firmware file from PC86IMG_2.08.651.2_firmware_nohboot.zip. to PC86IMG.zip. I make sure this file is in the Root of the sdcard.
7) Now I rebooted into the bootloader. (I use quickboot) from the market it's free.
8) pick bootload, it will check your sdcard, find the PC86IMG and ask you if you want to apply it. I said yes.
9) After this I rebooted into fastboot. Then picked recovery.
10) I then did a phone wipe (completely) you may skip this by just clearing Dalvik and cache. But I did not want to take any changes.
11) After that I flashed the rom.

After reboot and putting my info back on. It was all working fine. The market downloaded all the apps and installed them. I then recovered my data and any missing apps from My Backup pro.

This rom is fast and works great. Note Google Chat does not have the Video chat enabled.

HelicopterShowdown For The Win!
It's been a long time coming. Thousand of visitors this week. Getting the graphics and web design thing going. T- shirts and apparel and etc. What I do however is write and I have been waiting for a few days to get this review on this awesome ROM from XDA developer HelicopterShowdown. I guess this is more of a closer look than a review because I'll tell you right of the bat this ROM is my favorite for the EVO 3D. First off the kernel allows for stable overclocking up around 1.85 GHz and that was one of the things I found most appealing about it. This with undervolting boot and after about a week of use the battery life on it was just awesome, 7 or 8 hours of heavy use for me easy. The ROM comes equipped with the Gingerbread theme and extended quick settings menu that includes media volume and brightness for your convenience. Their are long list of features that I will list for you after the break but let me take a moment to talk about the hallmark of this ROM. Showdown is fast. I know people tell you this all the time and I've heard more than once the EVO 3D is fast out of the box how much faster could it be? Seeing is believing, flash this bad boy. It is FAST. The kernel is just amazing with several speed tweaks dubbed miscellaneous by developer HelicopterShowdown. Also there is the option of a second kernel that has a different configuration. The voltage is upped and CFS is modified. Conservative is default for speed and battery as well. Overall this ROM will knock your socks off guaranteed. I won't be flashing anything else for a long time. Mama always said if it ain't broke don't fix it. Best ROM on EVO 3D and I have frankly tried all of them. HTC For The Win!

HTC is up to big things. Today you may have read that they are planning on releasing 8 new smartphones over the next 90 days which begs the question what do they have up their sleeve. I have long been a fan and have of course covered the company formerly known as High Tech Corporation. Way back in 1997 HTC was a little known mobile computer manufacturer founded by Cher Wang and Peter Chou. Initially known as High Tech Corporation, the Taiwan based company designed some of the world’s first touch screen wireless hand-held devices. HTC began by manufacturing handsets based on WIndows Mobile Operating system with their then partner Microsoft. The first Microsoft powered smart phone came in 2002 followed the next year by the first 3G Microsoft phone. A little known fact about HTC is that one of their first products was the Palm Treo 650. HTC joined the Open Handset Alliance, an amalgamation of manufacturers and network operators, who’s mission statement is to advance the Android mobile device platform. The opening salvo in the barrage of Android handsets to come was the HTC Dream aka the T-Mobile G1, the first Android phone. HTC has grown tremendously since changing the primary focus of their company to Android and both the corporation and the platform have grown quite a bit.

Fast forward to this year and you have a company that has had phenomenal success and just continues to blaze a trail to the top of the worlds smartphone manufacturers. Just look at the figures in contrast. Last May (2010) Then manufacturer reported 18.82 billion dollars in revenue. This year that figure ballooned to an impressive 40.62 billion dollars. This is before the HTC EVO 3D and HTC Sensation, phones that have enjoyed huge sales figures even came to be. This leaves us begging the question of what does HTC have up their sleeve now? With recent acquisition of Dashwire a cloud based services company for a reported 18.5 million dollars we know the evolution of their Sense custom overlay is a huge part of the plan. With SGS II coming HTC will have to come up with a heavy hitter to continue the trend of financial gains and being a fan I cant wait to see what they got for us next.
