Irene Can't Stop all this Galaxy S II Goodness for AT&T and T-Mobile!!

For months now Android fans in the US have watched and waited. Waited for one of the biggest Android phones of the year to reach our shores and not even Hurricane Irene can hold it back for long! Samsung held their big event today in New York City to unveil three versions of GSII. Kidromulous already reported on the Sprint version here and now for the AT&T and T-Mobile versions.

Thankfully for my typing hand both AT&T and T-Mobile kept it simple in naming this device and just went with Galaxy S II branding for bother versions. The AT&T GSII will be releasing Sept. 18th and will sport all the specs we have come to know and love. The phone will be packing a 1.2GHz dualcore processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 4G HSPA+ radio,8MP rear camera w/2MP front camera,1080p HD video support, HDMI out and 1650 mAh battery. The AT&T GSII will come with a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display which may come as a disappointment to some. Keep in mind that the Infuse already has the 4.5" display and the smaller battery and screen keep the phone down to a very slim 8.89mm.

The T-Mobile GSII is a little harder to write up, it seems that their version was not quite ready for the show and was not able to be demo'd. They did have a version on display and it showed off some very nicely rounded corners and a softer look. The T-Mobile version will be equipped with the larger 4.52 Super AMOLED display, 8MP rear and 2MP front camera combo w/ 1080p HD video support, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 1.2 GHz dualcore processor, HSPA+ 4G radio, WiFi calling, and a large number of preloaded apps. There is no actual release date or final specs for weight and width reveled at the show.

Samsung is already showing off numerous docks and accessories for these phones so you will be able to buy gear to your heart's content. The big news here is that this phone is finally concrete and everyone can start checking to see when your contract upgrade is due!!

The Nexus Prime To Be Verizon Exclusive named Droid Prime???

Verizon for the Win!!!!

After breaking news yesterday on the soon to be announced Samsung Galaxy S II 4G LTE it seems that this phone had more secrets to reveal. To the heartbreak of many Verizon customers the announcement was made that Big Red would not be picking up the Galaxy S II. The reason given by Verizon corporate was the lineup of upcoming releases had no place for the GSII. Well now the real reason for this decision has been reveled and it will be worth the wait! Read on for details.

The Galaxy S II LTE will come with a 4.65" Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.5GHz dualcore processor,Android 4.0 Icecream Sandwich and 4G LTE radios. These specs match up very closely to what we know about the Nexus Prime and now for the big news! Not only is Verizon getting this phone but they will be getting it in October and it will be a Verizon exclusive!! Rumor has it that the phone will be branded the Droid Prime however this is certainly not fact yet. First off the Droid Bionic is releasing very soon and Verizon does not make a habit of dropping multiple flagship "Droid" branded phones that close together. Second is the fact that this has long been rumored to be a Nexus Device, calling the phone the Droid Prime would make it a Verizon exclusive(and we know the ICS Nexus will be on other carriers). Maybe there is another Nexus device lurking out there? More likely we are jumping the gun on the name of this phone and it will settle out to be the Nexus Prime. This phone will be packing some serious specs and looks to do battle with the Iphone 5 on Verizon since they will be dropping at about the same time. With both of these phones both Verizon and the customers win as they will have the pick of the best the Android and iOS has to offer right now. The real question for us Verizon Android users is will this phone bring us the stock Android experience (which if it is a Nexus device it should be stock android) or will it be skinned in Touchwiz and crammed with the usual Big Red bloat? Here's to hoping Big Red leaves this phone in its stock Android state. Either way it looks like all of us on Verizon will get the first crack at the very best that Samsung and Android have to offer this year and that should make for some very happy campers in Big Reds camp!

Verizon Galaxy S II Cancelled???

The Samsung Galaxy S II has been one of the most highly anticipated of the year. Samsung released the first Galaxy series of phones across all carriers in slightly different form factors. It was assumed that the same process would be followed with the release of the GSII. We all know what happens when you assume something and it seems this has been proven true again.

Today the Wall Street Journal broke a story that confidential sources informed them that the GSII would NOT be releasing on Verizon. A Verizon spokeswoman named Brenda Raney came forward to confirm this news. Brenda had this to say,

“We have an extensive portfolio that offers customers a great variety of devices, including the Samsung Droid Charge,” said Brenda Raney, a Verizon Wireless spokeswoman. She declined to elaborate.

While the Droid Charge is not quite the GSII( I own one so I can back this up) she does have a point. Verizon has been releasing Android phones like Gangbusters (Droid Charge,Droid X2,Droid 3, LG Revolution, Etc) and with all reports pointing to the fact that Verizon will be finally getting a Nexus device in the form of the Prime maybe they felt the lineup was too crowded. Either way it seems that all of you out there sitting on your upgrade will have to jump on the Bionic( if that ever drops) or wait for the glut of phones coming to us this holiday season. Let us know what you think about it in the comments below.

Rumor Mill: Nexus Prime Seen in Verizon Hands???!!!

So while we are on the subject of Nexus Prime rumors I want to share one that has myself excited. I have been on Verizon my whole life and have spent the last few years watching Google's amazing Nexus devices be released on every carrier except my own. Google's Nexus phones come stripped down to bare Android and do not ship with any carrier bloatware of any sort. Any Verizon Android user can attest that this goes against Big Reds MO.

The Times They are a Changin?

However TechnoBuffalo is reporting that not only is Verizon considering the Prime but it is in Verizon hands already!! The Prime is rumored to pack a 4.5" Super AOMLED Plus HD screen, dual 1.5 Ghz processors, 4G LTE, and Ice Cream Sandwich. Verizon has long been against rooted devices and the thought of not being able to keep an eye on the data used by rooted tethered 4G devices may be alot for them to handle. However the Nexus Prime as any Android user will attest is one of the most anticipated devices of the year. Time and again Verizon has passed on this phone. With the Prime being rumored to pack 4G LTE and Verizon the ONLY carrier with a fully functioning LTE network it would make total sense for them to jump on the Nexus bandwagon. All sources point to this rumor being true and Big Red Android fans would be quite pleased not only to see the Prime but to get first shot at it!!!

Droid Bionic Hopes Dashed by Droid HD Leak!!!

Better then the Bionic????

So you are a Verizon customer and you have been waiting for the Droid Bionic to release for MONTHS now and the end is finally in sight as the Bionic's release is looming. Nothing could take away your excitement, no other release can top this 4G wonder! Wait a minute, what the heck is the Droid HD??!!

New Kid on the Block

Engadget has received leaked images of this new phone and WOW does it look sexy! The device pictured has a 4.5" screen( possibly with 1280x720 resolution), an 8MP rear facing camera with 1080p support, SIM and micro SD slots, a very large looking battery, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread on board. The big deal here is the thinness of the phone. The Samsung Galaxy S II has been the current King of thickness but it looks like Motorola is gunning for the prize itself! Now in the leaked pictures the phone has no carrier branding so noone is sure who's service will be receiving this phone if at all( prototype maybe??). What is known is that a very slim, very sexy Moto phone is out there being tested right now. The only question is, are these photos enough to prevent you from buying the Bionic( knowing how close Verizon and Moto are)???

Romulous Reports: Vigor, What Does HTC Have Up Their Sleeve Now?

Well the bad news for me is Verizon is reported to be the home of this new phone. However it's still good news for all HTC fans. The HTC Vigor is one bad ass phone and your going to have the pardon the expletive cause it just is. It's no secret to my friends and followers that I much prefer Snapdragon to everything else the dynamic CPU scaling that it offers in it's dual core iterations brings both top notch performance and awesome battery life. The HTC Vigor promises to bring the most powerful Snapdragon we've seen yet to bare. A dual core 1.5 GHz out of the box. Now why is that a big deal you ask? Aren't you holding a snapdragon dual core phone stably overclocked at 1.8 GHz? Yes I am but the next generation of Snapdragons were talking stability at 2.5 GHz and Vigor is looking like one of those handsets. The phone is rumored to be taking a similar form factor to the famous EVO line and though most will say it will look something like the Thunderbolt we know the T-bolt took its looks from the HTC EVO 4G is older sibling. Anyway here is the rumored spec list:

  • 4.3 inch 1280 x 720 (720 p) HD Display
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16 GB Internal Storage
  • 8MP Camera 2MP front facing camera
  • Android 2.34
  • Sense 3.5
  • All powered by a dual core 1.5 GHz processor

The phone is also rumored to be the first to be powered by Beats by Dre Audio which is nothing to shake a stick at. For more info on Beats By Dre and their partnership with HTC go HERE. Sound has never been a priority for me but it may fast become one. My current phone is an HTC. My last phone was an HTC and my next phone will be an HTC. Now if I can hold out for the Puccini. More to come folks.

Droid Bionic Spotted In Verizon Store

So if you haven't heard then good you heard it here first. A Motorola employee has been spotted with the Droid Bionic in a Verizon store. The insanity did not stop there!

Oh yeah and I almost forgot the lady had a lap top dock to go with it and she was even reportedly doing speedtest. This is a really gimmicky way to leak your new handset but I digress. Motorola hasn't gotten a whole lot of attention lately. What's with the lap top dock idea anyway? Why bet on that when people are toting tablets around? Anyway just thought I'd share.

Verizon Galaxy S 2 previewed in Korea??

The United States of Android is waiting with bated breath for the release of the Samsung Galaxy S 2 on all carriers and the leaks have been slow in coming. The T-Mobile Hercules and the Sprint Within have broken cover and made their blurry cam debut recently. The Verizon Function and the AT&T Attain have yet to be seen but IT Tong a Korean site has dropped information on a Korean variant that just may be the Verizon Function.

IT Tong is reporting that this unnamed phone will sport some beastly specs. First and foremost is a 4.5" Super AMOLED Plus screen, 4G LTE Radios, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, an 8MP camera around back with a 2MP camera on the front, and 16GB of internal storage. One of the big questions is which processor will each version of the GS2 bring to the table. If you are a regular reader of this blog you will know that we have been reporting that the Verizon Function will come with not a Samsung sourced processor but a Qualcomm chip set. Guess what chipset this phone has? A 1.5 GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 Snapdragon Dual Core processor! The phone also has a larger 1750 mAh battery on board to help feel that hungry 4G radio.

The only bad news here is that the 4G radio is operating on an 800 MHz LTE frequency while both Verizon and AT&T are on 700 MHz bands. This phone may be Europe bound where this LTE radio would feel right at home. However it would not take much to make this phone 700 MHz friendly so keep an eye out for the Function to show its self off much clearer soon!
